New heater hoses and temp sender installed in the head. Ran it some more and found 7 and 8 headers cold. Verified spark, pulled the fuel rails and was surprised to find a lot of silty junk in both and corrosion from moisture in the left in. Tested injectors and both 7 and 8 ohmed ok, but would not cycle with voltage. I cleaned the hell out of the rails and the pressure side of all the injectors and ordered a full set of eight remanufactured ones. When they show up, I’ll start by just installing the two and see if that solves the issues.

That sounds like it may be an easy fix at least. Hope it works out for you.

I think it will be and it forced me to take it all apart and learn how to do it, even though it’s simple. Replacements will be here tomorrow

Good news bad news, the new injectors fixed the problem and it runs and sounds awesome! The right rear fuel rail plug is leaking and has been the whole time. I found fuel on the back wiring harness right underneath it, looks like the ethanol fuel corrosion got to it also. I saw a YouTube video on how to remove the plug and replace the O-ring, might try that tomorrow night.

Thanks fellas, I’m much more excited now that it runs right, really sounds great. Should shred tires with the rear gear and this converter!

Called Fenix insurance agency last night for a quote for the race car and the '66, ended up having him look into a bid for all the cars and am a little scared to see what he says. Hope to have the '66 figured out today, I plan on driving tit his weekend!

Interested to hear how expensive insuring a race car is. Also curious how your quote may compare to what I pay for Hagerty.

WOW, I never knew anybody who drove around in a TIT.borat

biggrin Glad it is working out for you, gonna be a nice driver now, after all these years. I don't even remember the story, didn't you get it, and have to fix something right away, or were you driving it for awhile. Anyhow, enjoy, you deserve it after all these years.

I think your quote should be good, I use them from home to auto and classic insurance now. Even the earthquake insurance isn't bad.

Fenix is the only local place I’ve found that will insure race cars. A single quote from Hagarty for just the ‘66 was $488 a year, Jeff was able to get coverage for all five collector cars totaling nearly $100K with zero deductible for $849 a year! I’ll be going through them for Home and shop also as the tool coverage alone can go to $150K before having to itemize everything. Nothing is covered now!

Race car is covered to $35K everywhere except running down the track, $35K for the ‘66 unlimited mileage, $7K for the ‘59 F-100 unlimited milage, $15K GTO as storage/project, $10K Model A storage/project. Also covered with the racecar will be the enclosed trailer and all it’s contents.

Dave, I bought the car from a guy I was introduced to while being shown the first hydroplane I ever saw many years ago. Kerry and I raced boats for a decade and I bought the ‘66 from him in late 1998. Deirdra and I where young and broke, I made a big down payment to him and left for college in Phoenix. After I graduated in 2002 I paid him the balance and trailered it Home to our little place in Bothell. The old bias ply tires where rotten, the rearend was jacked up a mile to clear the wide tires with 2” backspacing, sidewalls where cut up from the tires hitting the wheel well trim, had an old school “mail box” tunnel ram sticking through the hood too! Aluminum sheet metal door panels and dash, plastic bucket seats, bolt in roll cage, electric fuel pump and fram filter housing mounted hanging below the rear bumper off the frame rail. It was 1980 pro street wannabe without being tubbed, lol

I wonder if they will insure out of state, that sounds like a great deal!!

Asking around I was very surprised how many people don’t insure race cars. That’s a big investment to risk. Even if it’s only covered while stored and trailered, it’s better than nothing.
