Consider this my build thread!

Ok, as some of you may remember, I recently relocated here from Kansas City.  Yup.  I leave town and my football team goes all awesome.  disbelief   I left behind my beloved Chevelle in a nice warm, dry storage shed and have been itching to start something else since.  Over the past couple weeks, I've been scouring craigslist from here to Sacramento to Reno to Salt Lake looking for something to build that wasn't too expensive and something I could enjoy for a couple years.  Oddly enough, I found what I was looking for close by.

Bought and hauled home a 1967 El Camino today.  Has a really tired 250 6 cylinder that I CANT WAIT to pull, rebuild and put a BIG ASS TURBO on!  WOOWOOOO!

Not....

Have a recently acquired LQ4 6.0L ready for a stroker kit.  The plan is a 700hp NA motor with a 6-speed Tremec and a 9".  Just a mild little street motor that's fun to drive and my wife can hop in now and then and drive too.  I'll be using products from manufacturers I have a relationship with to showcase some of the really awesome product that's available today.  Really looking forward to putting it all together and having a fun time to boot!

Heading to SEMA tomorrow and will be gone all flippin week.  Hope to find a few fun things for the project and see a bunch of great friends and customers.

GAME ON!

The previous owner tried to cover up some of the flaws with fresh coat of paint, but it wasn't to be deceitful. It needs lots of body work, but I'm concentrating on the driveline for now and we'll see how interested I am after! Cant wait to get wrenchin but have to wait a couple weeks before the heavy lifting starts.

How long are you gonna be in vegas? I'm heading down on Sunday- big work conference at Mandalay Bay Mon-Thursday... But i found out that everyone else is leaving thursday morning- i'm not flying out till thurs night- so that means i have all thursday to play, was thinking about heading down to SEMA and at least checking out the outside carshow stuff.

I've gone in the past, and am in their system if i wanted to register and get in, but didn't really feel like paying the $90 "late" entry fee just to go one day (was $25 if you registered early, WTF?)

Anyway- Give me a call- 425-765-3023 maybe we can hook up. Do you have a vendor booth, or are you hanging out with a company that does?

Ben

Nice, hopefully I'll be dropping an engine in my 67 soon. Between building 3 at once and people trying to buy them I can't ever figure out which one to roll with. Turbo LS sounds freakin sick!

Ben-

I'll be there till Friday afternoon.  I represent a number of manufacturers who display at the show, so I'll be at one of their booths.  Primarily in the performance hall.  On site purchasing of a pass is always expensive because of the logistics and the convention center takes a nice big cut of it as well.  Thursday is always a busy day in the morning and slow in the afternoon before the banquet.  So afternoon on Thursday I will probably have some time.  Will text you if I get free.

I would call Auburn Machine and speak with Mike the owner...they have invested in a lot of new machines over the last handful of years...he's also a '67 guy, sold his to fund purchasing the shop after working there for 18 years.

Back from SEMA week and itching to get some work done.  Will leave the drivetrain alone for now till the LS is ready to go in.  So I started in on the interior today.  Not going to do much with it.  Seats, some trim that needs to be replaced and some other little details to make it a little more comfortable.

Took the bench seat out and prayed like hell before I took the new carpet up.  Was pleasantly surprised that most of the cancer had been removed, but it wasn't a very good job.  Solid enough to allow me to cut out the rest and stitch in some patch panels.

As far as that fuse box goes....egads.  I seriously hate doing it, but its getting a Painless Performance harness.  Having electrical problems down the road is not something I want to deal with.  Thank god Painless has an idiot proof harness for dummy's like me!

Have a few more little clean up things to do today then time to order some parts.

I'm curious...is Painless making direct fit replacement harnesses these days like M&H or American Autowire does? I really like my M&H harnesses...plug and play.

Only one I ever used is Painless.  They do include a little extended length in each of the wires which is nice if you want to relocate something or change how its routed.  I liked that when I did it on my Chevelle.  Each wire has what its for printed on the wire, which is also nice if you're like me and easily lose track of crap!

Never used the other ones.  Plug and play?  Meaning all the connectors are there and its like a factory harness?  That sounds pretty awesome actually.

Yup, factory direct replacement harnesses...every connector right down to that horseshoe shaped steering column connector in '68 and prior. You can order the engine harness for HEI instead of points and the forward lamp harness for pass. side ALT. also. Other options available as well like gauges vs. warning lights. In the last couple years they also went to the ATC style fuses instead of glass fuses in the fuse box. Once you use a plug and play harness you'll wonder why you ever bothered with Painless...
