Hey guys,

Just picked up my family owned 71 chevelle malibu.  Bought it from my uncle and had it shipped from Orlando Fl.  He has been having some health issues so financially it was time to pass the torch, but keep it in the family.  My grandma bought the car brand new in 1971, my mom was 8 years old in the back seat when they drove it off the lot. I grew up riding around to shows and going racing with my uncle before he moved to the east coast in 1999. He rear ended someone in 2004, and instead of just fixing it decide to go big..block that is.. biggrin  Anyhow Got on the Team Chevelle site, George Kettler told me about this local site.  It so great to have a site with locals on it.

I'm finishing off a frame on resto, that as previously mentioned turned into a bbc swap.  It's got all new sheet metal upfront and a full body of fresh paint.  The new Motor is a 408, and it has a new built 700r4 behind it.  Both are installed but none of the supporting accessory stuff has been put together or connected yet.  I have the original 350ci in my garage sitting right next to the car, and my uncle has the original th350.

A little about mysmelf: I bleed bowtie orange, but love all classic and new american muscle, and appreciate anything that goes fast.  Self-taught shade tree mechanic(maybe more of part changer.) When I'm not wrenching on stuff, I love to swing a hammer around the house, snowboard and play softball, I coach and play on a couple of teams.  I work as Firefighter for the City of Renton, it's the best job in the world and you really couldnt pay me more to do anything else, and I do a little roofing on the side in the summer time.

Anyways that's just a little about me. Glad to have found this place and I hope meet up with a couple locals at some point.  On a side note I'd like to upload some pics but I don't have a website, can this forum upload pics from the hard drive like a lot of others?

Dan

Ahh thanks!

As you can see in the pics, I've gotten the rear bumper and tailight assemblies back on, The valve cover was touching the A/C evap housing, wasnt sure how bad or how much pressure was on it, so I removed it and was greeted by those beautiful roller rockers, but the cover came off very easily and was just barely touching so I'm going to the leave them and either use a torque strap of some kind or maybe switch the driver side motor mount to a poly mount.

Also this is my first "brand new engine" and I'm not familiar with the break in and tuning that needs to be done. I;ve done some reseach on the mother sight and lots of guys are saying to pull the inner valve springs for the break.  Anyone around me that could help with that project and the engine break-in?  Also I was thinking about getting it dyno tuned to maximize the potential, i figure if i'm going to get 6 mpg, I might as well squeeze every last hp I can out of it. Anyone have any recommendations.  Jim Greens and carb connection are kind of the only places I know of, anyone have any experience  with these or others?

thanks

Dan,

I'm glad you made the jump over here. You'll have no regrets. Yup, you can meet a few people at a SAT eve gathering or a weekend BBQ or a track day.
Silver seems to be pretty popular around here...Mason moving on and you showing up.
Thanks for posting the pictures
