Hi All,

I just got my 66 elky project back and ready to do some wrenching. Hoping to gain a lot of info and useful ideas for this project on this forum. Right now the elky has a sorry 250 6 cylinder in it...that barely will get it down the road. It is not the original engine (which was a non fixable 327). I just got a 350 from my fathers friend which has about 10000 miles on it. It was one of the GM Goodwrench crate engines...4 bolt main. Hoping to dress this engine up a little to push 350+ HP.

Looking forward to sharing my experience with you all! I am new to the hotrod game, so please be patient with me. I love cars...which is a huge start.

Welcome(name?),

Sounds like you have a good start and are eager to learn.

If you need a small block '66/'67 Chevelle/El Camino V8 radiator I have a new one...only used it for break in before I bought the Alumitech. Comes with a new radiator cap.

Thanks for the gracious greetings!

I am hoping to get started on the engine...fairly soon. I am hoping to do a small cam swap, new intake, and carb. Any recommendations? I will eventually want to change the heads as well. i think I remember reading that the GM Goodwrench crate engine had a really low 8.4:1 compression. Is it possible to replace the cam without doing a bunch of engine work?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Sorry...my name is Tony!

sure. one of the car mags did a several issue project years back called project goodwrench, where they took one of those engines out of the crate and showed what it could do with some basic stuff, then progressively more expensive changes.

If i remember right, just a Comp XE268 cam, high lift roller rockers, and headers and it was putting out an honest 350hp, no changes to heads or anything else. They went on to change heads and other stuff and had it up to 400hp, but all i was interested in was the basic form & what a simple cam swap would do for it...

I bought a new one and stuck it in a 69 elcamino i had a long time back, and with 3.73 gears behind it, and a beefy trans shift kit, it felt like it had decent power & was a blast to cruise around in. Never did get around to putting a better cam in it, but honestly it was fun as it was.

Found it...

Unfortunately neither the Elcamino, no the volvo was running a goodwrench 350...

I guess I don't feel bad about my avatar change. It obviously could have been much worse.
