kettbomotive 454 due to arrive Friday night... Olds 330 getting dismounted and strapped to a pallet for shipping out tomorrow.

New garage doors arrive next week, and my work in the basement is about done. Just waiting for drywallers to commit to a date (next week i hope) to finish that work so I can empty out my garage so i can bring the car home...

Hard to be patient!

Good to see you and chat this evening Ben! It has been too long!
I'll have to re-set my garage due to all the stuff that I hauled up north.

Spent a little time sorting through the pile of stuff George brought up, and found an engine buried in the mix!

I saw a good deal, called, and an even better deal happened! I met the seller in Fife and dropped a load on Ben at work! LOL
Having been in BEN's shoes, doing all that I can to get this beast going.
Things have changed from Complete Welfare to something akin to Super Budget. The Great Wazoo from Arlington may be called upon to verify springs and such if Ben desires to go bigger than 224*/.510/110 in the block

How is that for hints?

Ok, yesterdays lineup change: Heads - 3872702 396/427 98cc

These appear to be real nice, recently rebuilt heads. Chamber size will help make the low comp smogger pistons bearable.
Still need to do some measuring to figure out real world compression numbers with these heads, the dished pistons, and stock piston depth... would be nice if we were up into the 9's, but even high 8's would be better than where we were.

Will return the PP & 781 heads to George in exchange for these.

Also scored a weiand stealth dual plane intake with an edelbrock 750 electric choke on top to resell.

I'm being realistic about the goals for this motor- For my purposes, a solid 400hp w/ lots of low end torque would be just fine, and I think we are on target for that goal. Would i like more? hell yeah, but i also don't want to grenade anything, and I also need to keep money on the table for the other big ticket items i still need to get the car on the road- so i think we've met that goal nicely. Now i just need to clean and assemble this thing, and bring the car home.

I did a little cleanup and organizing in the garage yesterday and of course had to set all the goodies on the block for "storage space"

Did some rough calcs and looks like motor will be around 8.88:1 compression with this combo.
Not horrible. Definitely better than it would have been with the other heads though...

most factory builds, the pistons are .023" down in the hole. with the shim head gaskets, you could be 9.2:1 CR
With blue regular .039" compressed head gaskets, yup, 8.9:1

Recall, Elky with street 3.42 gears. 4000# 2400 stall POS converter went 13.4, worked this to 13.0. Swapped to 3000 stall went to 12.78 at 104.9x
this with 8.8:1 cr and 226*/.533/108 cam. This was over one summer, not overnight. You have a slightly milder cam, better gearing with the ST10, 68 Chevelle weighs less than 70 Elky. Easy budget high 12 street cruiser.

Sounds like you are getting a good street combo together. Still will have plenty of torque to be able to do great burnouts. The older I get the more I just like to cruise anyway.. yawn

Keep it 8.8:1 cr and put a little weiand 177 blower on it.

Per George:

Cam currently installed in block:
New delta grind
224* .510 110LSA

he has offered me:

UDKettbo reground crane core:
230.5/242.1 .548" /.544" 110LSA

Mark, can you post up specs or PN for the Lunati SFT you offered?

Lets see what people say i should run...

This is the BBC equivalent to what I ran in the olds 455 with 9.5:1 compression and it ran great.... would like to see similar performance.

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/lun-60203

had it NOT been an BBO and unable to rev w/o risk- i would have gone the next step up to the xx04 cam...

Are the xx03 & xx04 voodoo cams similar in comparison to the two profiles george has offered up? I am not good at understanding cam specs... advertised vs actual, etc etc.

The springs and pushrods come with it, he'd have to buy new lifters.  No clearance required on my 215s, in fact I had to shim the springs.
