It is home. My luck with this site and pics, I’m surprised it even posted!

I found the left motor mount cracked and I need new headers, but otherwise should have this car back together soon.

Set the engine in yesterday, sadly the new pan doesn’t clear. This is a common issue in the early chassis and why the previous engine had a stock pan. I’m leaning towards notching the crossmember to avoid from now on, just sucks to load and haul it somewhere to get that welded.

Yeah I agree with notching it. Looks like it wouldn’t take much. Maybe it’s time to invest in a welder? I’m sure you could use one but understand that it’s a cost that could otherwise be spent on car parts.

some lincoln setups.  Not a lot of newer Miller’s for sale at moment

I have a Hobart 140 mig, just need to buy the regulator of the shield gas and get the bottle filled. My only concern is that its been years since I've used one and don't feel confident using this as my first go at it again.

Yeah welding on my frame last week was a tad intimidating and I was just adding to it.  Thats a pretty important crossmember you are working on. Though it does look like you can get away with a fairly small notch.

Chop it out and get everything ready, and I'll bring my welder over and do it real quick if you want.

Or regulator and bottle.

Take Durand up on his offer! (I'm sure he has some tips to offer while over)  Practice on your own on something non-structural.

I didn't even pay attention to that pan not having the corners notched. My 20403 has notched corners that clear the crossmember.

The little kick-outs interfere with the headers and oil filter, from what I read. The upside to notching the crossmember will be nearly any pan should fit in the future.

I'll have to ask Mommy if it's OK to play with JB weld first.

I'm sorry I didn't get back to you Durrand, thank you for the offer. I had to finish up a house project Saturday and didn't get out to the shop till Sunday afternoon.

It's mostly done however, I worked out there late and was able to get most of it burned in. I will be grinding it down and making a couple more passes on the bottom edge because I didn't get the material clean enough. I think it's coming out well. My welds on the the top half are decent really, considering I haven't touched a welder in over a decade. I'd be ready to put the engine in this coming weekend, but will have to wait a coupe weeks to fund new headers. I will be better/faster though!

It's all good.
Welding is like riding a bike.
Good thing is a grinder can erase any mistakes.
