I'm doing this all on my phone, so hopfully it works.

its obvious that the last thing I need is another projec, but while I put the word out that I was looking for a truck to tow the race car the short distance to Bremerton and for occasional trips to the nursery for the landscapin stuff, my buddy dropped this on me. Unfortunately he hadn't paid any attention to it in years and didn't know just how bad it was. After being delivered to my place, we struck a much more "fair" deal and I started ordering parts.

My plan is to go through the drivetrain, tune up the low mile cheap GM crate 350 and th400, install CPP disc brakes all around, install a posi, new wiring harness, radiato, and some interior tlc and drive it just how it is, rusty as hell!

God you suck! Throw carpet in there and you will never know the difference. That's normal rust for these trucks. I love them and you got a great deal.  Maybe fix the windshield or cowl leak so water stops running onto the floors?  Looks to me like the floors rusting out saved the rockers!

Cool project Mike.
Man I thought my new/old truck had rust. Mine is an 82 Chev C20 Scottsdale 454, loaded. I may have to start a truck thread since it's been taking time away from my Chevelle.
Have fun with your project.

The floors and rear cab mount rust don't bother me too much, it sucks that the door bottoms are bad and the windshield frame, specially the top part of the frame, not sure how to go about fixing that?

Don't "fix" it. Just drive it. slap some steel over the holes in the floor and pop rivit it in place to keep fumes out and run it.

Just my $.02

BTW... Eric and I are gonna come steal your 66 since you clearly don't need it anymore

haha

Eh ok that is a bit worse than I thought. I agree with Ben here, too much to fix. You don't have a lot invested in it so make it perform well, and drive it. Let the next owner do the full resto. Still a sweet truck. If you really wanted to fix that rust, I would just find a donor cab. Honestly the best option with the roof channel that rotted, the floors, cab mounts, etc. You would be able to find a solid cab shell that just needed rockers for $500 probably.

It's got a new GM crate 350 and rebuilt th400 in it with a 12 bolt rearend. Not sure the gear ratio, but I'll have a posi installed and make sure the axle bearings and seals are good, install the disc brake kit that's being shipped right now, and just drive it. I bought a complete wiring harness for it also. I don't plan to work on the body at all really, at least no time soon. If I do any upgrades it will the roller 355 and 700R4 I already have in my shop, and a newer bench seat.

A steering wheel too I hope wink  I don't think I've ever seen one that bad.  Some day I will own a short bed I hope.  It would look good with my truck..

Disc brake kit, tilt column, Yukon posi, Kilduff Twister shifter for a 700R4, and Porter built front control arms should be here this week! Still trying to figure out what to do for the rearend. It's almost too low to fit a lift bag in the springs to support towing a trailer, I might be doing my fist C notch next week.

Send all that crap back, buy a used Cummins drivetrain and put it in that delivery van in back of your shop!!   If I had the skills and the equipment, that would make one hell of a unique tow rig!

What's the pickup have for rear springs, coils?
