I have a new project

So I bought a 1968 chevy truck.
It's a half ton long bed
The add on CL was for a Drag truck
the add stated 4 speed saginaw with 327 with tunnel ram.
The truck has been professionally back halved. It has 33 X 21.5 X 15 rear tires with 12 bolt professionally narrowed with Moser custom axles and coil overs.
It really is a pro street truck
The add started at 14k
The next week it was at 12k
I wanted to see how a good back half job looked so I went to look.
I looked, but no way I would want it for the asking price. The back half did look well done.
The back story is the guy who built most of the truck passed and his older brother finished it. He is not a car guy.
After I looked at it, he kept emailing me and lowering the price. When he got to $4500 I bought it.
Now, I was told it had 50 miles on it in the last 15 years. The frame off nut and bolt resto was from 1994-2004.
It has zero rust and lots of good parts.

I did sign a bill of sale for as is... etc.

I pulled the tunnel ram off today to put a single four setup on to get running reliable. The tunnel ram leaked gas and thats why I couldn't really hear it run or test drive it. But he had recipts for like 25K worth of work.

I found the cam lobes wiped on number 7.
Also the trans is a 3 speed saginaw... shame on me for not seeing the 2 shift rods and not 3!
I am not saying boohoo. I would not have called him and gave him extra money if I had profited from the purchase, which was my intention. I don't feel the need to even let him know the current situation.
He was pretty emotional when the tow truck loaded the truck. He asked if he could have the personal plate as they were his little brothers name.
I have a blank canvas to create something awesome!
What do I do?
I could rebuild the motor and send it down the road?
I could put a big block in it with a th400 and drag race it at Monroe but keep it street legal?
I could build my dream super charged small block?

Nice truck! Of course...it all depends on your plans to keep it for a while or flip it....but that 327/3spd seems very small.

Even though the current drivetrain isn't what you want or what was expected, it looks like you got a decent deal. I know what I'd do with it as we talked about it already, BBC and a 4l80E and drive/race the hell out of it! Personally, I love it, it's something different to see as a pro street and would look cool on the road.

Square away the back half, cage it and put a supercharged BBC in it with the trans of your choice and race it!!  You already have enough cruisers.

I have the motor stripped of accessories and ready to pull out.

I am hoping since the motor only has like 50 miles on it, that the bearings are still good and it just needs a new cam and lifters.

Damn Eric!! What a score. I think it deserves a big block but for just getting her going again, don't blame you for sticking with the 327. Seriously a great buy.

i said the same thing- but after seeing it in person, the flames are growing on me.

I like the silver paint. I think he should just get a little bolt on scoop to cover up the hole in the hood and keep it.

The interior in this truck is great... super nice leather bench seat- smells like a new car.

Such an odd combo to put together with a three speed for a pro street ride. Looking forward to seeing it melting those sportsman pros!

I was thinking the same thing. You are already making quick progress, Eric! How is your short bed truck?
