In the mean time, I drove by there on my way home yesterday and was surprised to see that they are still selling fuel from their pumps. Those greedy bastards are playing the odds that most people won't complain.
They said I was the only one that complained about their tainted LOVE.

All month I've been working on the Malibu to upgrade the cam, converter, shift kit and manifolds to headers.

While shimming the valve springs I found an exhaust valve leaking air so off the heads came. Found that guide loose also. Got the guide replaced and valve touched up, thanks Darryl. While off I rounded the casting lines under ther valves and cleaned the carbon out the ports.

Went from a Comp XE262H, 218/224 @ .050", .462/.469" lift to a Lunati Vodoo 268H, 227/233 @ .050", .489/.504" lift.

Stock 13" converter to a TCI 10" 3500, I had planned on running a Summit brand 10" 25-2800 but it would not go in the trans all the way, only 2 clunks so for expedience sake the looser one went in.

Manifolds with 2" collectors to 1 5/8" primary 3" collector mid length Patriot Clippsters. Had to trim the driver side motor mount bracket for clearance and the collector flange was up against the prop valve so some creative grinding was done there also.

Got the engine back in today and only a few things left to do before she fires. Will update you after break-in and first burnouts biggrin

Cool Jason! That’s a great driver you’ve built.  What oil will you run?

Thanks Brett.
I usually run Chevron Supreme 10-30 but put in 20-50 for the break-in.
Thinking on switching to VR1.

The engine started right up with no funny noises and no leaks.

Started breaking in the cam at 3 pm today, 2200 rpms and had to shut is off after 10 minutes at 220 degrees.
Started it 15 minutes later and it came down to 180*, ran it for 25 minutes total for break in.
Idled it down and the temp stayed under 180*. The cam sounds good at idle, has more chop than the 262 had.
I chose to break in the cam with the new headers, to save time and as I suspected it was a mistake, some tubes got discolored and one flaked the coating off. Big bummer. no

fire
I used some metal flex tubes to adapt the headers to the exhaust until I could get to the exhaust shop so it's noisier than normal but sounds good out the tail pipes.
The big stall converter is too much for this mild engine. Bummed the new 10" 2500 converter didn't fit all the way in the trans, it only would clunk in twice. Thinking I should have dropped the engine in to check if there was clearance, maybe it was all the way in, after all the engine dropped in really easy.
The 670 street avenger carb has a big bog when getting into the secondaries, currently has purple spring. Thinking about putting my 780 vacuum carb on, it always ran good on my big block.
I will do some tuning when the exhaust is fixed.
Stay tuned for video.
