Manifold EFI Conversion

Morning everyone,

Hope you all are enjoying a quiet a Sunday.  After struggling for the past few years to fit the Vic Jr under the Imp's hood I have decided to grab a shorter intake to convert to MPFI.

A few intake options:

  • Torker II - not my first choice, but was recommended by the guy doing the intake conversion.  I have no direct experience with the T2, but have read it is not the best performance intake.  The biggest advantage is it's lower carb pad height, however I may be limiting myself for future performance upgrades, i.e. 496, etc.
  • Holley Strip Dominator - very interested in this intake because of the angle carb pad (4.75F x 6.25R) and the intake runners being slightly smaller than the Vic Jr's.  This makes me think power will come on a little lower in the RPM range than the Vic Jr.
  • RPM Air Gap - shear cool factor of a dual plane MPFI makes me want to pull the trigger on this.  Also, I have read zero complaints about the intake and it's operating range fits perfectly into my combo.  Attached is an Air Gap converted.

Any input is greatly appreciated!!

Edelbrock ProFlo3 is what I would use if looking to convert to a sequential port EFI system.

I already have the Holley HP EFI system and it works great, but I cannot fully close my hood with the Vic Jr. intake. That is why I am looking into other options.

Definitely would love to go sequential EFI in the future with a crank trigger setup, the use the dizzy for the cam signal.

The eddy rpm has good hood clearance plus it works great on a 496

I have the Performer RPM NON-Air Gap, looks stock, same height as Air Gap and run 11.9s in the 1/4 with a pieced together 454. Can't go wrong with the RPM Air Gap.

Morning, after going back and forth all weekend I pulled the trigger on the Strip Dominator. It was not an easy choice because of how good the RPM Air Gap is.

Working with Kevin Thompson at Hotrodsolutions.net, he will mill down the carb pad to a final height of 4.5"F x 5.6"R to give me the clearance needed. Expected turnaround is 2wks after Kevin receives the manifold, hopefully I'll be back on the road in July.

I think I have an oval and rectangle port Strip dominator on the shelf.

Dam...I already picked up the manifold and shipped to Memphis. No worries, I'll post pics when the manifold gets back.

Kevin, Hotrod Solutions, gave me a call last week to let me know there is no way he could mill down the intake to the height I needed.  As we talked about other options it became clear our messages were getting crossed.  He thought I was going for an all out street/strip, but I all I want is a nice torque street monster.  With that cleared up, I sent him my Weiand Street Warrior to convert to MPFI.  The intake arrives this Wednesday, 7/05, so hopefully he can turn the intake around quickly.

I ran the Street Warrior prior the EFI conversion and had great throttle response with my mildly tuned carb.  With EFI, the dam thing should be insane!!
