68 headlight switch operation

i think I remember from my last chevelle that to operate the lights; headlights, parking, dash: that you pull out the dash knob then twist to make dimmer or brighter? Is this accurate?

Reason I ask is that in current 68, the knob spins fine but from my firm but gentle pulling, I get nowhere. Just don't want to yank it apart.

should have two pull out positions... 1st is the driving lights & dash lights, 2nd (farthest out) is headlights and everything.

I wouldn't recommend too much twisting!
