Wheel Poll - 55 210 Chevy

Sorry to create another thread to talk about wheels but I measured for my wheels today and I will need a custom back space for the rear.  Think I can fit an 18x9.5" wheel with 295/45/18's in the back.  Stance will have to be perfect as that's a much taller tire.  So now the price has gone up with custom backspacing so I have to choose what wheel I want.

Torque thrust w/ gray centers?  Will look like car below but I think those are 17's, I'll be running 18".

Or American Racing salt flats . They are like Boyds below but not quite as cool as his has machined edges on the accent spokes.

I like the ones on the first car- But not the ones in your picture. The car's wheels have the pointed spokes and look way better than the typical torque thrust II's with the rounded spokes.
Rocket Racing and a few other companies (maybe even American Racing) make them with the pointed spoke design.

I vote for that.

I noticed that as well, but I don't think that design is available in 18". I think those are torque thrust originals.  Should I go with 17" like the car above?  I do like that look.

I am 100% with Rambo. I love the pointed or peaked 5 spoke style. That's likely what my car will get. After everything else.

Edit: these are the rocket booster.

The top car is drop dead sexy with those wheels, the bottom car looks like it has plastic wheels and should have pedals and a hole in the roof for the kids to get in it.

Wheel Vintiques makes the pointed spoke wheels too. Billet specialties makes nice stuff also.

I’ll check out the rocket boosters. Though I would like a polished lip.

Mike, I still have a budget otherwise I would go with billet specialties but that’s way too expensive.

The rocket booster looks similar but is missing some character or lip on the barrel. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

I agree the salt flats are losing me.  I'm really torn here.  I agree I like the sharper spoke... I did find that American racing has a VN425.  They can paint the centers but I'm not sure on the cost.  Fully polished on a black car wouldn't look bad... Though in 18" I liked the idea of the gray center to reduce the "bling-ness"

VN425

But they also have the VN409, this is difficult.  I think this is a bit more old school.  Might be the wheel on the car above, just with a painted center... Hmm I do like this.confuse

I still like the bottom car photo, even with the non machined spoke version you showed also. The top photo just looks too "bubblish" to me. I'd also rock a black steel wheel with RWLs on it though...more of a NASCAR look.

Depending on your brakes, etc., the VN409 may be better, or something like it with a fatter flange around the lug nuts. I've seen it on a few cars where you can see the rotor flange well outside the wheel flange. Looks odd to me. (If anyone has this, sorry, didn't mean yours, yours is the only one I saw that looked spot on.)

Agree Ben #2.. VN409 really starting to become my new favorite. Going to see if I can get it in the custom backspace and what cost to paint centers is.

It’s all individually perspective of course. I love the salt flats and would have them on my ‘66 if I could afford them. The VN409 is a nice wheel too. I always liked the Centerline Retro too.

I like the 409, but wish they had rough cast centers. I'll bet you can special order them that way though. Do they have them in 18's?

One of my frineds is getting 18" salt flats for his 65 C10. Should be here any day. I'll post up pics once he gets them mounted.

They do come in 18”. I like the idea of the sand cast centers. I’ll do some research.

Ok I know you guys are probably tired of talking about this but I think I have finalized it to the VN409 above. My problem is that with the custom offset, apparently they don't offer it with the as-cast or bead blasted centers... .  So,,, options if I go VN409:

1. Go fully polished? Afraid it is too blingy maybe?  Pic is several posts back.  Polished is pretty timeless and also less expensive.

2. Find someone that can media blast just the center spokes.  Not sure if thats possible.  Anyone know?  Do you think they would need to be clear coated so they stay cleaner?

3. Get them powder coated which they offer. Thinking a medium gray in a satin finish. They offer it in matte as well...
Examples:

This one looks a bit glossy:

s-l225.jpg

Maybe too light

425grey.jpg

Ben did suggest vintage wheel works which makes a similar wheel but it would be about $200 more.  I already feel like I'm spending too much money but I also want to be happy with my choice.  This is nitpicky but don't love any of the center caps they offer.

I like the American Racing one based on the smooth rim profile as opposed to the stepped lip on the other 2. For some reason I care more about how that looks than the center or hub.

Found a couple more similar 5 spoke designs.
First in 3 finishes.

Weird, I guess we do all like different things.  I like the stepped lip...

LaVelle, I did look at those and do like the second option you listed but the largest they come is in 17".  I'm pretty sure that I like 18" though I also battled back and forth on that decision.

I'm getting close to pulling the trigger and just hoping for the best.  I've never waffled back and forth.  I could go polished and plastidip the centers to try it, then maybe someone can blast them for me if I like it.

That one is my favorite. Maybe paint the centers a slightly darker grey
