A long time friend of mine was telling his co-worker he was looking for a BBC for his 70 k20 4x4..guy says i have a GM crate engine still new,but has been sitting for years.so he went and got it,got to taking it apart, and came to the conclusion it wasnt a normal 454.by the numbers on the block, the crayon marks and the code stamped in the block and also the sticker on the valve cover,it is an all new never ran GM performance parts LS7! New in 1979.   i  looked at it myself yesterday.surface rusty from sitting, but everything inside still had assembly lube on it.big dome pistons,990 casting heads(iron) forged crank, windage tray, trap door oil pan,gm ls7 solid cam. just thougt i would share this!

Wow, that’s very cool! And worth some coin too. I believe they are 12.5:1 cr, so keep that in mind if he runs it.

Wouldn't it be worth more if he left it as is, instead of changing cams?

It will run high 10’s in a light car, easy.
A buddy at Bremerton ran one for nearly 20 years in the 11:3’s in a 3,600# Olds, refreshing it every five years.

i think i would have had to leave the original cam in it, at least to fire it up and hear it as the general intended at least a few times.

Very neat score.

If he didn’t buy it from a coworker I would say sell it. Still probably could and throw the guy a bit of extra cash...

OK, I'll bite, how much? I love hearing of people scoring a good deal once in awhile.

Does he want to trade straight across for a mild 454 for his truck? I know a guy....

LOL.

I thought when you said "we didn't want to know" it was because the number was crazy high! LOL.

If that engine sat for years unused, then it had no real purpose or value to the guy. Good for your friend, glad someone will get to put it to use.
