Online Resellers & not collecting WA state sales tax
Permalink

Just placed a summit order, and clicked on the little link at the end of the status about them not collecting sales tax for washington state...

So they are expecting people to report & pay sales ("use") tax on their purchases from the whole year at tax time? WTF  Weird that i had not heard of this before now...
I knew there was some hubbub about them charging sales tax, but that is really stupid to not collect it and expect people to keep track of individual purchases thoughout the year.

anyone else seen this stuff yet?

They can just add another tax on to Seattle and collect that!

Use Tax has been around for decades! If you go buy a TV in Oregon and bring it home to Washington, you were always supposed to pay use tax. I don't see how they are going to enforce this. It says you don't have to itemize items under $1,000.

Hmm never noticed that. I agree going to be hard to enforce, bigger fish to fry and the IRS doesn’t exactly have their stuff together...

Yup, it has been around forever. Washington just got started in the enforcement game, more to come, you can be sure of it. Soon they will require all internet sellers to collect and pay it to the state.

I hate that tax and have been trying to avoid it since that law was passed a few years ago when the barracuda(Queen Christine Gregoire) was Governor.  I try to find places that don't collect it.  It'd have to be programmed in their system for a large online seller to keep track of where all the orders come from and their tax rules.
