Usually on most blocks they are 3/8" NPT.
That one is 1/2" NPT., and you have let me guess, a 4 bolt block.
Generally 2 bolts have the 3/8" and 4 bolts use both the 3/8" and the 1/2".
The 1/2" is usually a external tell for a 4 bolt block.

I picked up a 1/2 and a 3/4 NPT plug at the parts store and the 3/4 fit.

I was wondering about that, I get lost with pipe sizes. ( sorry mind is going with age )
The 1/2" are manifold/water pump heater hose nipple size.

I think the stated size of an NPT is like 1/4" over what the actual diameter is that you would measure on the plug. Something like that.

I think it's a 1/4 under the hole size for schedule 40.
Pipe size's always screw me up, by determining the size by inside diameter.
